How to Make Essiac Tea:
Supplies Needed: Enameled, glass or stainless steel pot with a tight fitting lid. Canning Jars, lids and rings (optional; brown bottles). Funnel and strainer (optional), or a glass-measuring cup. DO NOT use any aluminum or Teflon pots or utensils’! Because we are unsure of the loss of medicinal potency of Essiac Tea, that is older than two weeks. NFSA strongly recommends using our one-ounce (1 OZ.) weight. Furthermore, because Essiac tea is perishable the one once weight will offer the maximum therapeutic –like efficiency with a cost saving advantage. You may increase the shelf life of Essiac tea by properly sterilizing all utensils, jars, lids, rings, ect.
NFSA One Once ( 1oz) Formula:
1/4 cup of Essiac Herbs (1oz weight) per 2 Quarts of un-chlorinated water, pure filtered, alkaline water is ideal. Optional: Add 3/4-1 cup of extra water per one quart of water to compensate for the water boiling off. (A tight fitting lid will help prevent this occurrence).
- Place water into the pot and bring to a boil.
- Add herb mixture to boiling water and continue to boil, covered, at a medium-rolling boil for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat, scrape down the herbs from the sides of the pot and allow the mixture to sit, covered, at room temperature, for 10-12 hours (No Longer than 18 Hours).
- Stir herbal mixture, place lid back on and reheat the tea until steaming hot (DO NOT bring tea to a boil).
- Allow the mixture/ tea to sit covered and undisturbed for several minutes allowing the herbal mixture to settle to the bottom of the pot.
- Place funnel and the strainer on the top of the sterile preheated canning jars (If you don’t have a funnel or strainer you can utilized a glass measuring cup to pour the tea into the jars.)
- Carefully pour off (decant) the liquid from the pot into the canning jars.
- Screw the lids on allow cooling and then refrigerating. Some of the sediment will be at the bottom of the jars – this is Normal. The rest of the herbal mixture sediment remaining in the pot can be used as a poultice (add powdered slippery elm bark for a more past-like consistency. Or you can discard the mixture.
Directions for Drinking Essiac Tea
One serving; Pour 1 oz (Two Tablespoons or 1/8 cup) Essiac tea decoction into a cup and add 2oz of hot water (water at room temperature is also recommended) For a general tonic NFSA recommends; 1 oz of “Essiac tea” per day taken on an empty stomach preferably at bedtime. For our clients suffering from illness we recommend; 2-3 oz of “Essiac Tea” on a empty stomach in two or three divided dosages. Do not take with other medications. Do not take more than 4oz per day! (Essiac tea is not toxic in larger doses, but GI upset may occur). Do Not Microwave. Drink Essiac tea slowly on an empty stomach allowing time for it to be absorbed before eating or taking your medications approximately 20-30 minutes. Discard Essiac tea if it tastes sour or when mold appears to be floating on the surface. Nurses For Safer Access recommends taking time off of Essiac tea periodically, we recommend taking off one weekend per month. Please provide us with your updated medication and any lab results from your primary or specialty physicians to help us safeguard you and your medications, and help NFSA compile data on this potentially promising remedy found in nature.
